Sega and Relic Entertainment have announced a free update for Company of Heroes 2 called Turning Point, which will introduce a world building tool, among other things, when it is released on November 12.
The world builder, described as a 'highly requested community feature,' will allow players to design and share their own multiplayer maps for Company of Heroes 2.
In addition, the Turning Point expansion will introduce two new multiplayer maps--Rails and Metal and Lazur Factory. Lastly, four new multiplayer commanders, two per faction, are also included with the free update for the game's multiplayer and skirmish modes.
Launching The World Builder. To launch the World Builder, navigate to your Company of Heroes 2 local files and double click WorldBuilder_CoH_2.exe. Alternately, the World Builder can be launched from the Tools menu of the Mod Builder. This is a quick tutorial on how to set up world builder, & everything you need to start making maps in CoH 2. One commander from each faction was designed by members of the community during a visit to Relic's office in Vancouver, Canada.
A first look at the new maps for Company of Heroes 2 included with the Turning Point expansion will be provided through Relic's Twitch TV channel today. A demo of the world builder will be provided tomorrow, November 6.
In addition to the Turning Point expansion, Relic executive producer Greg Wilson said Steam Workshop integration and 'other mod features' could come to the game 'in the near future.'
Sega purchased Relic and the Company of Heroes franchise in January for $26.6 million as part of the THQ bankruptcy auction. Company of Heroes 2 launched in June exclusively on PC and sold more than 380,000 copies in five days. For more, check out GameSpot's review.
